A fresh approach from Southwark Council

Southwark Council is pushing for new laws that would put duty on Network Rail and other rail operators to work in partnership with local authorities and local communities.

At a meeting on July 8th, it adopted eight ideas under a law called the Sustainable Communities Act, which gives people the opportunity to come up with proposals to improve the place where they live.

It enables local people to improve their local community by asking the Government to act. One of their ideas was to force rail and train companies to be better neighbours.

You can read more about it here.

Merton Council has decided not to use the Sustainable Communities Act this time.
