Despite months of lobbying by the Dundonald Focus team, not to mention a petition presented by local residents in August, Network Rail has told London Lib Dem Assembly Member, Caroline Pidgeon, that it’s “looking very unlikely that we will be able to paint the bridge at Wimbledon Chase”. The reason they give is the cost.
Chris Wiggan, Network Rail Public Affairs manager for London and the South East said “The cost would be in the region of £100K (this would cover costs to strip back the current structure, repaint and apply for road and rail closures) and unfortunately Network Rail weren’t funded by the Rail Regulator for this kind of work through our five year funding round despite our initial representations. “
Residents should continue to put pressure on Network Rail by reporting litter or grafitti at Wimbledon Chase using their 24 hour helpline: 08457 114141.
